Hello Arkansas Baptists!

Are you ready to go to Haiti? Evangelism, Discipleship and Construction opportunities await you.

The Lord has opened a new door for us. The president of the Western Haiti Baptist Convention, Pastor Joseph of the Baptist Church at Leogane, offered us a spot inside his personal compound in Leogane, Haiti. Instead of the 1 ½ hour drive each way from the Concord Church at Port-Au-Prince (our previous base), we are now able to base at Leogane, one of our two target towns. The other is Darbonne, about 30 minutes away. Leogane is approximately two hours west of the Port Au Prince airport.

The new base is composed of three metal buildings that are hurricane and earthquake resistant, two new toilets and two new showers, a kitchen, and a water system.

God has also sent Roody Joseph, the pastor’s son, to Haiti. Roody is an American citizen, having moved to the U.S. when he was nine years old. He is also a member of FBC, Sarasota, Florida. Roody had flown to Haiti six days before the January quake to visit his father, and because of the quake, has never left. This godly man has agreed to become our point person on the ground there, arranging or providing all logistics for our teams (transportation, meals, etc.)

The third church to use this base is going in today! Mike Love, pastor of Heber Springs Baptist Church, is leading a team which will be involved in evangelism, discipleship and leader training. The church at Darbonne has seen over 200 converts since the quake, and the church at Leogane over 100.

Mike Smith, pastor of FBC Dardanelle, led the first team to the new base in late June. That team worked primarily in the Dabonne area doing street witnessing and leading services and training. They also discovered an orphanage that was in deep need of help. The Dardanelle team led over 130 people to Christ! Mike reported that as the week progressed, the evening services were standing room only with many folks outside looking in.

Nathan James and Grant Harrison, co-pastors of the Epoch Church in Little Rock, led a team to Leogane the week after the Dardanelle team. Check out their pictures and blog here: http://www.epochchurch.org/haiti/

Please pray for the 12 teams scheduled through the end of the year. There are openings (leaving on a Friday, returning on a Friday.) Are you interested? email Bob Fielding (bfielding@absc.org).
