Orthopedic Surgeons

By now you know that there are NO IMB missionaries based in Haiti. An Arkansas Baptist has connected us with an evangelical mission in Western Haiti (120 miles west of Port-au-Prince). We have closely checked out their statement of faith and verified them with the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability. Our ABSC team leaving Friday will be at their compound next week.

There is a GREAT need for orthopedic surgeons right now. This is the only specialty being accepted by the mission at this time. The area was marginally impacted by the quake and is attracting those people that were impacted. There are two hospitals within minutes of the mission compound that are undamaged and functioning. Anesthesia is available and those that can administer it.

Surgeons are asked to bring equipment with them.

Family Practice docs and nurses will be needed in several weeks. If you have doctors and nurses who are interested in going, please have them fill out the informational form at www.absc.org/haiti and get it to us ASAP. We want to start scheduling them soon.

1) Living Conditions/expenses: This ministry has a compound with a guest house, food and water. Donations will be accepted for lodging and food, but no cost is asked for!
All travel and other expenses are to be paid for by trip participants - these are self-funded trips. The ABSC would help with all arrangements.

2) Security is reported as very good. American and Haitian missionaries live on the secure compound. The hospitals are secure.

3) TRAVEL would by-pass Port-Au-Prince for now. There is a 3,200 foot paved runway that is 15 minutes from the mission compound. Participants would take a commercial flight to either Fort Lauderdale or the Bahamas and then be flown in on twin-engine aircraft. The trip is six hours from Fort Lauderdale and much less from the Bahamas. Ground transportation is provided by the mission.

4) If you have an orthopedic surgeon that is interested, I have many more details. PLEASE call the Missions Ministries Team.
