February 24, 2010 Update

Hello Arkansas Baptists,
Yesterday Arkansas Team 2 (FEB 20-FEB 27 team)served 330 people at the medical clinic at their base location, the Concord Baptist Church at Port-Au-Prince. A team member told me than a senior adult man was elated to receive a pair of reading glasses. He exclaimed that he has been unable to read his Bible since the quake and was so glad to now be able to read the Word. In addition, the two construction experts were able to complete the installation of the water purification system furnished by Arkansas Baptists through the Haiti relief offering. The system will purify about six gallons of water per minute. Many people in that area will drink pure water for the first time in their lives!

Today, the medical team went on an excursion to the area of Darbonne, west of Port-Au-Prince, to conduct a medical clinic. They saw 160 people today. The team has been unable to send us pictures for the last two days. The pictures above were taken by the Arkansas assessment team two weeks ago. The Darbonne Baptist Church is pictured, as well as the founding pastor (seated) and current pastors. The medical clinic conducted today occurred under the tree where the pastors were photographed. The church is now holding worship services under that tree.

Please pray for the people that our team ministered to. The team will travel to the same location Thursday and Friday. Also, the rainy season starts soon. This will mulyiply the misery of folks who are already living under tarps and pieces of tin.

Pray also for the team of twelve that leaves for Haiti this Saturday. They will be serving under the umbrella of the North American Mission Board/Florida Baptist Convention ministry based out of the Florida House in Port-Au-Prince.
